Let's Get Grounded!

Feeling overwhelmed can happen quickly during the holidays. From all the holiday parties, festivities, and our day to day routines, we can feel like we’ll never get everything done. Grounding is a wonderful skill that can be done anytime and anywhere. When you start to feel overwhelmed and your stress level is climbing, try one of the following to ground yourself in the present moment:

  • Ask yourself some simple questions like What day of the week is it? What month is it? What season and time of day is it?

  • List all your favorite movies, actors, or musicians

  • List all your favorite books/the names of your favorite authors

  • List all your favorite songs or every concert you’ve been to

  • List all the places you’ve traveled to

  • List the birthdays of all your family members

Think of your favorite place to be or vacation: What does it look like? What does it sound and smell like when you are there? How do you feel when you are there? Simply trying to mentally place yourself back to this favorite place can help you feel like you’re there.


Taking a few moments to ground yourself in the present moment will allow you to get back to enjoying all the wonderful things the holidays have to offer.
